The video discusses the formulation of the idea, the cooperation of prison officials and the results - as expressed by inmates/students. Laotong Yoga has grown into a beacon of social justice and mindfulness-based practices since the film came out 8 years ago. Join us directly following the film screening for an interview with Laotong Yoga’s executive director, Jennie Hill, to learn more about how this program has expanded over the years through sharing practices of meditation and trauma informed yoga with individuals incarcerated in WV correctional facilities and with others involved with the criminal legal system, whether through re-entry, recovery, rehabilitation, or employment. The Independent DocuFilm Screening Series, co-hosted by Junktown Cinema Club and UUCGV, is intended to serve as a platform to shed light on topics related to humanitarianism, environmentalism, and social justice with the idea that by meeting with the film creator/s after the showing, we equip the community with the information and tools to take steps of action inspired by the film. Throughout the course of a show he’s known to croon an audience with acoustic guitar ballads, sing a few numbers on his lap steel, and even sit down at the keys to show off his surprising boogie-woogie piano chops. Sydow has toured internationally and received accolades from LA Music Critic and No Depression. On top of that, the last three years have seen the release of over a dozen tracks Sydow produced for other artists, including Lauren Frihauf and Payge Turner (The Voice, Season 19).
