Kentucky musician and composer Ben Sollee has been blurring boundaries with his musical style and more...0 career for nearly two decades – his latest album, Long Haul (2024) is no exception. Drawing on tonal influences from the American and global south, Sollee’s vocals and unique cello style thread through each track binding seemingly disparate chapters of his journey – the Long Haul. Sollee's work as a composer has included scoring films such as LAND from director Robin Wright, and Maggie Morre(s), a John Slattery film featuring Tina Fey and Jon Hamm. He also scored the podcast series Unreformed, which was recently nominated for a Peabody Award. Outside of music, Sollee helped launch the non-profit Canopy, which supports Kentucky businesses positively impacting their communities and planet. Sollee is known for his outside-of-the-box cello playing and his curiosity has led him to new, innovative media spaces, having quite literally toured the world by plane, train, automobile, bicycle, and on foot. His musical virtuosity and ever-evolving sound combines elements from the folk, pop, soul, and classical genres into a dazzling style all his own.

This special evening will feature a presentation more...0 by Dr Timothy Winegard, live music by Greg Luck, food truck, local art, books sold by Out West Books, and an introduction by poet laureate of Western Colorado, Wendy Videlock. Dr. Winegard of CMU is a NYT bestselling author of six books, including The Mosquito, a Human History of Our Deadliest Predator. He has appeared on Netflix, CBS This Morning, PBS, C- Span, Global News, BBC, CBC, and hundreds of other national and international documentaries, television and radio programs to discuss his research and books. His most recent book, The Horse, a Galloping History of Humanity, will be the subject of the evening. We will enjoy a presentation by Dr Winegard, a reading of select passages from the book, as well as an interview, Q & A session and book signing. A refined, yet relaxed concert at First Presbyterian Church. When to Arrive: Doors open one hour before the show; most arrive 40 minutes prior. Dress Code: Wear what you like, though athletic attire is generally discouraged. Applause: Applause is encouraged; follow others if you are unsure when to clap. Etiquette: Please silence devices, limit noise during the performance, and be patient with traffic after the concert as it can get a little congested.

Doors will open at 5:30 pm, with films starting at 7 pm. Western Colorado Alliance hosts Mountainfilm On Tour to inspire healthy, just and self-reliant communities through the power of film, art and ideas. Much like our Alliance, these film festivals work to increase our collective voices and impact in our communities. As always, we'll feature a friendly happy hour with music, and you'll have the opportunity to bid on a wide variety of items in our silent auction!
