(Note - no specific end time) As part of GJ Pride 2024, American Lutheran Church and Colorado West Pride are hosting a public screening of the award-winning documentary "1946 the Mistranslation that Shifted a Culture." The film will be shown on the same evening as the GJ City Council's issues their proclamation in support of Pride week and the larger LGBTQ+ community. Opening in 2020 at a variety of domestic & international film festivals, the film continues to be shown all over the world to educate people about the origins of anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment. Seeking to uncover the origins of the rabid homophobia of the conservative church, a gay seminary scholar and a straight activist make a shocking discovery: In 1946 an erroneous translation of the term homosexual in the Bible that has been weaponized against the LGBTQ+ community ever since. In offering this event, ALC seeks to both assure LGBTQ+ folx that they are beloved children of God and to repudiate the harm done by churches influenced by this mistranslation.
