FINDING WHAT WE KNOW
A workshop on creative nonfiction
6:00pm-7:30pm, The Art Center 1803 N. 7th Street GJ, CO 81501
The fairly recent nomenclature of “creative nonfiction” might easily include our first diaries and journals, first beloved poems, essays,

and autobiographical “true stories,” and blossom into writing about others’ real lives as a journalist, a local or overseas reporter, or researcher, or as a poet and essayist, or editor of others’ works. I’ve worked in all these fields, then found the harder task of separating what is deemed autobiographical material from what it can blossom into, as fiction or nonfiction, realism or fantasy or a mix of the two, and discovering what it is one most wants to create, as well as what you might expect to make a living from for all our efforts. Join us for a discussion of what interests you in creative nonfiction, a chance to share some helpful book titles and authors we each recommend, and some time to write one or two pieces of memoir, to see what we come up with. Let’s focus on honesty and the pleasure of each other’s company.

MARC DOUGLAS BERARDO - https://www.marcdouglas.com/electronic-press-kit-epk Singer-songwriter, performer, and keen observer, Marc Douglas Berardo composes songs that mine the deep feelings and lessons gleaned from real-life characters and situations along with an onstage presence that uses humor and deft storytelling to rally an audience and lead them into a deep and almost spiritual experience. It’s an adventure that brings to mind James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, Guy Clark, or Steely Dan with a touch of Mark Twain or Hunter S. Thompson for good measure. An MDB show is a night of laughter and emotion that works to send an audience home with a renewed sense of possibility. No Depression Magazine called his last CD Whalebone: “sincere, fluid, charming and above all gripping.” “Marc Douglas Berardo always captivates the room from the first note to the final bow. His ability to have an audience crying one minute and laughing the next defines his artistry as a songwriter, but the real evidence of his skill as an entertainer is that people leave his shows with stacks of CDs, asking when he’ll be back.” Mile High Music, CO,
